Applus+ Automotive, fostering responsible road conduct in Costa Rica

06/07/2018
Riteve, a company that recently joined the Automotive Division in Costa Rica, is actively engaged in the field of corporate social responsibility. Like Applus+, Riteve strives to take a responsible approach to its various stakeholder groups.
As such, Riteve carries out a range of corporate social responsibility initiatives under the banner of Fuerza Riteve. Fuerza Riteve is an association of employees who volunteer their time to run road-safety-awareness campaigns such as the following:

Promotion of eco-driving to help the environment

To mark World Environment Day, members of Fuerza Riteve set out to raise driver awareness of more efficient driving practices with a view to reducing both fuel consumption and emissions.

Under a slogan that roughly translates as “Protect your purse and the planet: fix minor problems before they become major”, volunteers spoke to thousands of drivers about the importance of making timely vehicle repairs. As they explained, this is not only better for the environment, but it also saves money as there is a big difference in cost between fixing a minor problem and having to resolve one that has been left to worsen over time.

The workshop took place at the Environment Fair, which was organised by Minae, Costa Rica’s ministry for energy and the environment. The fair, which was held at the National Stadium, ran from 5th to 7th June and received some 10,000 visitors.

    Responsible Biker programme

The Motociclista Responsable (Responsible Biker) initiative is designed to reach out to motorcyclists, a group that is at particular risk of traffic accidents – indeed, one that tops the tables in terms of road fatalities in Costa Rica.

In partnership with a number of public bodies including Costa Rica’s traffic police and COSEVI (the national road-safety council), Fuerza Riteve volunteers have provided motorcyclists at Riteve stations with information on road rules, traffic offences and their consequences as well as first-hand accounts from people who have been involved in motorbike accidents or who have lost loved ones to them. The programme also offers free visual inspections and tests for gases. So far this year, Responsible Biker events have been held in seven Costa Rican cities.

Through these types of programmes, Riteve demonstrates its firm commitment to safeguarding the lives of Costa Rican citizens. We would like to thank the company for supplying Fuerza Riteve volunteers to help improve road safety, the environment and quality of life in Costa Rica.
