In Finland, Applus+ purchased the K1 Katsastajat Oy brand back in 2006 and they currently conduct the mandatory Periodical Technical Inspections (Statutory Vehicle Inspection) on all motorized vehicles types. Applus+ operate this service on behalf of the Ministry of Transport and Communications in Finland.
K1 Katsastajat Oy inspection has helped improve vehicle condition and decrease harmful vehicle emissions throughout the state where vehicles are inspected on a 3:2:1:1 frequency. Applus+ provide vehicle owners with the option of attending one of their 47 inspection centres which have the facility to inspect passenger, motorcycles and heavy goods vehicles. Applus+ employ over 200 vehicle inspectors across its Finnish network where they conduct over 600,000 inspections annually. The compliance rate for inspections in Finland is very high with a first time pass rate of 73.5%.
During the inspection, a series of safety checks are conducted on each vehicle covering brakes, suspension, emission measurements and diesel test.
In recent years, customers have been able to book their periodical technical inspection on line, this facility enables the customer to choose the time and the centre they wish to attend, they also have the added advantage of being able to pay for their test on line through a secure payment method which is processed in advance of the test. This has helped reduce the queuing time in the centres.
The sophisticated computer system which is in operation in Finland provides Katsastajat with maximum test security and accuracy to deal with the large number of vehicles which are due in for inspection on an annual basis.
