Applus+ Automotive participates in the Enterprise Challenges 2021

23/04/2021

The Barcelona Education in Science and Technology Foundation (BEST) has celebrated the 2021 edition of their Enterprise Challenges contest, in which the Automotive Division has participated for the second consecutive year.

The initiative allows groups of students studying on a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Technologies and Economic Analysis, at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) and Pompeu Fabra University, to develop projects in this area of business. The project was presented to a jury for assessment and are awarded prizes to recognize their projects.

The students have to devise and develop digital solutions that meet the criteria set by the various participating companies. The challenge for the university students collaborating with Applus+ Automotive was to integrate virtual-reality glasses into the statutory vehicle inspections.

Víctor Salvachúa (New Technologies Development at the Automotive Division) and Josú Otín (Area Director at the Automotive Division) were responsible for choosing the respective challenges for Applus+. Jaime Francisco Gomez-Meana, Alejandro Cuenca, and Xavier Grèbol (engineers from the statutory-vehicle-inspection centers in Sabadell and Madrid) mentored the students during the four weeks of the BEST initiative.

This year, the team of students who solved the challenge for the Automotive Division came second in the final ceremony of the Enterprise Challenges contest. The members of this team were Candela Álvarez, Carlos de Maqua, Patricia Rubial and Marina Suárez. The event was held virtually and organized by the Barcelona School of Industrial Engineering (ETSEIB), together with representatives of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), the Pompeu Fabra University, along with the other companies participating in the 2021 edition: Nestlé, HP, SUEZ, Cellnex, Noel, CIM, DOGA, COMEXI and the FemCAT Foundation.
