National Car Testing Service in Ireland

    Applus+ were awarded the contract as the exclusive provider of the statutory vehicle inspection programme in Ireland, the National Car Test.

    This contract awarded by the Road Safety Authority (RSA) saw the construction of an additional 3 centres to the existing 44 purpose built NCT centres located throughout the Republic of Ireland.
    The RSA sought an integrated technological solution that would effectively meet its fundamental aim of improving road safety and environmental protection whilst at the same time provide a high level of customer satisfaction.  Applus+ developed an integrated technical solution which was user friendly and effectively meet the requirements of the RSA ensuring the inspection centres provided and efficient and accurate vehicle inspection.


    During the inspection, a series of safety checks are conducted on each vehicle covering brakes, suspension, headlight aim and exhaust emissions. Owners whose vehicles are eligible for the car inspection must make an appointment at one the centres and appointments may be scheduled via a call centre or on-line at www.ncts.ie The NCTS call centre which uses the web based application Dashboard handles up to approximately 40-45K bookings per day with a typical booking taking only a minute and a half to complete.


    Applus+ leveraged its extensive experience as a provider of custom technology solutions to develop a comprehensive, multi-faceted technology solution that specifically met all of the RSA’s needs. The resulting Applus+ Car Testing Solution delivered versatile, integrated applications to support the bookings, vehicle check in, cash management and data collection needs of the NCT.
    Applus+ innovative technological approach played a key role in the awarding of this contract and they now provide a state of the solution within the NCTS network enabling them to carry out the 1.4 million vehicles due for inspection in Ireland annually.
